Title Public Reminded of Radon Risks during National Radon Action Month
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers radon testing services and test kits to identify hazards and protect building occupants’ health.

Cinnaminson, NJ, January 7th, 2015

January has been designated as National Radon Action Month by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Radon comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water.  People cannot see, smell or taste radon, but if it is present indoors at high levels it can be a danger over time to any building occupants.

The EPA’s radon website reports, “Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in America and claims the lives of about 21,000 Americans each year. In fact, the EPA and the U.S. Surgeon General urge all Americans to protect their health by testing their homes, schools, and other buildings for radon. Exposure to radon is a preventable health risk, and testing radon levels in your home can help prevent unnecessary exposure. If a high radon level is detected in your home, you can take steps to fix the problem to protect yourself and your family.”

One of the nation’s leading providers of test kits and radon analysis is EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL, we support the EPA’s public awareness campaign because radon is a real threat in many parts of North America,” said Garrett Ray, Radiological Laboratory Manager at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Exposure to radon is a preventable health risk and the winter months are an ideal time to have a home or property tested because most buildings are sealed tight due to cold weather. If elevated levels of radon are found in a building, there are mitigation techniques that can be implemented to minimize exposure risks.”

EMSL provides radon information and services from a dedicated website at www.RadonTestingLab.com.  The company has also sponsored a public outreach video about radon that can be viewed at: http://youtu.be/6yOMtXafNwM.
