Earlier this year, the tragic story of the death of an eight month old girl in Canada made headlines across North America.  The tragedy occurred after the child’s mother attempted to treat the family home for bed bugs with an illegally imported pesticide.  In addition to the young child’s death, her four siblings also had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.

Bed bugs can be found worldwide and can be present in all types of homes and buildings.  They are experts at hiding, which can make them difficult to find.  These small, flat, parasitic insects feed on the blood of people and animals while they sleep.  Bed bugs can be an ongoing annoyance because they often cause itching and loss of sleep for people living in infested properties. Some people may even suffer an allergic reaction to their presence.
