Cinnaminson, NJ, July 15th, 2015
In 2014, almost 5 million existing homes and over 400,000 newly-constructed homes were sold in the United States. Traditionally, about 40% of primary residence home sales occur with first-time homebuyers, but recently this figure has dropped to approximately 33%. Even with this drop, first-time homebuyers were responsible for purchasing well over 1.5 million homes last year.
Purchasing a home is major decision for anyone, but this can be an especially nerve-racking time for first-time homebuyers. First-time homebuyers may be overwhelmed with the process of looking for a home, negotiating a sales price, getting a mortgage and the home inspection process. During this exciting and sometimes hectic time period, it’s also important for first-time homebuyers to evaluate the indoor air quality (IAQ) of the property they are considering for the health and well-being of their families.
“Indoor air quality pollutants can be a problem in old homes, remodeled homes and even brand new properties,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “IAQ is an important consideration as some homes can be contaminated with elevated levels of chemical, microbial and even radioactive pollutants. Things to consider include mold, radon, volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, asbestos, lead-based paints, allergens, clandestine drug laboratory residues and more. At EMSL, we offer consumer-friendly test kits, analytical services and all of the sampling supplies necessary to test a home’s air and environmental quality. These services and products are available to the public as well as real estate professionals, landlords, home inspectors, and environmental and health professionals.”
