Title National Radon Action Plan Announced to Reduce Exposure Risks to this Known Carcinogen
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers testing services and consumer test kits to identify radon hazards in homes, schools and other indoor environments.

Cinnaminson, NJ, January 4th, 2016

Late last year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a strategy for preventing 3,200 lung cancer deaths annually by 2020 through radon exposure reduction strategies. The EPA announcement stated the agency is working with the American Lung Association and other federal partners and national organizations to achieve this goal.

Exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in America. The EPA’s National Radon Action Plan intends to save lives by reducing high radon levels in five million homes, apartments, schools and childcare centers. Strategies include requiring radon testing and reduction systems as a standard practice in housing finance and insurance programs, and institutionalizing radon risk reduction through building code requirements.

“Radon is a gas that comes from the decay of naturally occurring radioactive materials in the ground,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “It enters homes and buildings as it seeps up from the soil where it can then accumulate to high levels. People do not know if radon is present because it is invisible and odorless. Testing is affordable and is the only way to know the radon level of a home or building. If elevated levels are found, there are steps that can be implemented to address its presence that can prevent radon-induced lung cancer and save lives.”

One of North America’s leading providers of radon analysis and test kits is EMSL Analytical, Inc. They have laboratories located throughout the United States and Canada and offer an easy-to-use Radon Gas Test Kit that can be obtained at www.EMSLTestKits.com. They also provide radon information and testing services from a dedicated website at www.RadonTestingLab.com.
