EMSL Atlanta Laboratory Open to Assist with Flood Related Testing Needs |
Introduction |
EMSL has sampling supplies and testing services to assist with mold, lead, asbestos, sewer contamination and other hazards. |
Atlanta, GA, October 12 th, 2016
Last week, Hurricane Matthew traveled up the Southeast coast, causing destruction to Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. The hurricane’s winds and rain damaged many homes and businesses in its path. Many cities are still facing continued destruction as floodwaters rise.
Residents along the Southeast coast are returning to their properties to find significant property damage and environmental hazards that need to be addressed before they can begin to repair and rebuild. Flooded properties not only have to deal with water damage, but also the potential for mold growth, sewer contamination, asbestos-containing material, lead-based paints and other potentially hazardous materials that may now be exposed from the hurricane.
“Property owners should be aware that wet materials that are not thoroughly cleaned and dried, can begin to have mold growth in 24-48 hours,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “If the building is not dried out properly, a musty odor, signifying growth of microorganisms can remain long after the flood. During the cleanup process, property owners also need to be aware of other potential hazards such as lead-based paints and asbestos-containing materials that can be found in some older properties.”
EMSL has a laboratory located at 2205 Corporate Plaza Southeast, Suite 200 in Smyrna, Georgia that is open and serving businesses and residents impacted by the floodwaters. It offers sampling supplies and testing services to identify indoor contaminants caused by flooding. EMSL’s Atlanta laboratory can be reached by calling (770) 956-9150. EMSL has also sponsored a video about flood cleanup and indoor air quality issues that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/3Q1tnHFkPF0.
