Hurricane Matthew recently traveled up the Southeast coast, causing destruction to Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Wind and rain damaged many homes and businesses along the coast as the storm passed through. Now that Hurricane Matthew has passed, many cities are faced with flooding from the heavy rainfall.

As residents return to their properties, they are finding significant property damage and environmental hazards that need to be addressed before they can begin to repair and rebuild. Flooded properties not only have to deal with water damage, but also the potential for mold growth.  

“The shock that follows having a property damaged by flooding can be a significant challenge,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “However, property owners need to be aware of mold, bacteria and chemical contaminants that may also be present.
