Title Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Identifying Airborne Carcinogens
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides air testing services, sampling supplies and monitoring instruments to identify respiratory irritants, allergens, asthma triggers and known carcinogens.

Cinnaminson, NJ,  November 5th , 2018

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more people in the United States die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer. Each year, approximately 200,000 people in the U.S. are told they have lung cancer and more than 150,000 die from the disease. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that lung cancer has been the most common cancer in the world for several decades and as recently as 2015, lung cancer was responsible for about 1,690,000 deaths worldwide.

All of these figures support the importance of Lung Cancer Awareness Month which takes place each year during November. This month of recognition, acknowledged across the globe, is meant to raise awareness and engagement to fight the disease and educate people about things they can do to minimize their likelihood of getting lung cancer.

“A significant way to lower one’s chance of developing lung cancer is to avoid exposure to airborne pollutants that are known to cause the disease,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Some of the basic things people can do that the CDC suggests include not smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke, having one’s home tested for radon, and being careful to not be exposed to things that could cause cancer at work. This is important as there are many workers in professions who could be regularly exposed to hazards that are known carcinogens. Asbestos, silica, arsenic, diesel exhaust, cadmium and beryllium are just a few of many. Occupational exposure to many carcinogens is regulated and companies that fail to protect their workers could be at risk of costly noncompliance penalties and even lawsuits.”

To help prevent exposure risks for workers and the public, EMSL provides a complete array of air testing services, sampling supplies, real-time air monitoring equipment, and a full line of respirators and other personal protective equipment (PPE). To raise recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, EMSL has even sponsored an educational video about it that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/7VyvLF5lXEs.
