Earlier this fall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of approximately 110,000 neckerchief slides used by one of the largest scout and youth organizations in the United States due to potentially dangerous lead levels. The brass uniform pieces were sold in four styles including red wolf, green bear, orange lion and blue Webelos. The “Made in China” and P.O. number 200228276, 20023175, 200233281 or 200236630 are printed on a white label attached to the back of the neckerchief slides in question.

The products were sold exclusively at the organization’s retail stores and authorized distributors nationwide, in addition to online sales from February 2018 through August of this year. Those with the recalled products are being advised to immediately stop using the neckerchief slides, take them away from children, and return them to any of the organization’s retail store or distributor for a free replacement neckerchief slide, including shipping.

“With a few limited exceptions, all children's products manufactured in or imported into the United States must not contain more than 100 parts per million (ppm) of total lead content in accessible parts,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “This is a CPSC requirement. Manufacturers and importers must certify, based on the results of third party testing, that their children's products comply with this requirement limiting total lead content.”
