Title EMSL Analytical, Inc. Is the Only Commercial Laboratory Located in New Jersey to Be Accredited by NJDEP for PFAS Analysis in Drinking Water
Introduction EMSL Analytical, Inc. is pleased to announce that its corporate headquarters is the only private laboratory located in New Jersey to be accredited by NJDEP for PFAS analysis in drinking water.

Cinnaminson, NJ, October 30th , 2019

EMSL Analytical, Inc. is proud to announce that its headquarters is the only private laboratory within the State of New Jersey certified to analyze Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS) by EPA 537 and EPA 537.1 test methods. EMSL has the ability to analyze up to 18 different Perfluorinated compounds, including PFNA, PFOS, PFOA and GenX.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PFAS substances are a group of man-made chemicals that have been manufactured and used in a variety of industries around the globe, including the United States since the 1940s. PFOA and PFOS have been the most extensively produced and studied of these chemicals. Both chemicals are very persistent in the environment and in the human body – meaning they don’t break down and can accumulate over time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse human health effects.

PFAS chemicals can be found in a wide range of materials including food packaging, industrial production facilities, and commercial household products, especially non-stick products and household cleaners. A major source of these compounds building up in ground water is from fire-fighting foams used at airports and military bases where firefighter training occurs.

“The major problem with these chemicals is they seep into the ground water, polluting wells and drinking water sources,” said Phillip Worby, Environmental Chemistry Laboratory Director at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “These chemicals buildup over time and take a very long time to breakdown in drinking water sources. The only way to know if these chemicals are in your water source is to have the water analyzed.”

EMSL Cinnaminson, NJ is certified by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) under certification 03036.

The laboratory is located at 200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077 and can be reached directly by calling 1-800-220-3675. To learn more about EMSL’s testing services and locations, please visit www.EMSL.com or email info@EMSL.com.
