The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that a dietary supplement company out of New York had initiated a voluntary recall of two brands of a powdered drink mix. The recall involves one lot number of the two brands that were distributed in the United States through the internet and retail, and to customers in another 16 countries.

According to the recall notice, the powdered supplements were found to have unsafe levels of arsenic and lead. The statement goes on to report that long-term exposure to inorganic arsenic has been associated with skin disorders and increased risks for skin, bladder and lung cancers. It also declares that taking more than two servings daily potentially could result in an accumulation of lead in the body over time and too much of it can cause serious and sometimes permanent adverse health consequences. Customers are being advised to stop using the recalled products and return them to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.
