Cinnaminson, NJ, August 7th, 2020
For 2020, Safe + Sound Week takes place from August 10th through August 16th. Recognize Your Safety Successes is the theme for this year’s week of recognition which is described by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a nationwide event to raise awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs to systematically find and fix hazards in the workplace.
These efforts are critically important because although the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the rate of worker deaths and reported injuries in the United States has decreased significantly over the past four decades, recent BLS figures show there were 5,250 fatal work injuries recorded in the U.S. in 2018, a 2% increase from the previous year. Millions more suffer job-related injuries or illnesses each year.
OSHA states that serious job-related injuries or illnesses don't just hurt workers and their families, they also hurt businesses in a variety of ways. To change this, implementing safety and health programs that include management leadership and worker participation can provide a dramatic improvement in a company's safety and health performance, while also saving money and improving overall competitiveness.
“Industrial hygiene testing services and products are used to identify everything from chemical, microbial, radiological and thermal threats,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “The difference between a safe and healthy workplace or an environment with occupational injuries, illnesses and even fatalities comes down to these programs and actions.”
