Title CPSC Announces More Product Recalls Due to Lead Exposure Hazards
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers consumer product testing for lead and other regulated substances.

Cinnaminson, NJ, August 20th, 2020

In July, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced two more imported products were being recalled due to levels of lead (Pb) that exceed the federal lead content ban. In each instance, the agency reminded consumers that lead is toxic and can cause adverse health issues.

The first recalled item was a rhomboid-shaped outdoor activity pin for a large youth organization. Approximately 78,000 of the pins, which are silver with a gold animal paw painted on a blue background, were sold between April 2016 and January of this year. The pins were manufactured in China and consumers have been advised to immediately take the recalled pin away from children since the pin’s face and shaft contain elevated levels of lead.

The day after the activity pin recall was announced, CPSC published another recall notice for approximately 9,500 pieces of bedroom furniture. The furniture was manufactured in Vietnam and sold between October of last year and April of 2020. CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled furniture because the base coat paint used on pieces within the collection also contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead paint standard.

“There have been numerous imported products recalled this year due to lead hazards,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “What is particularly concerning is a number of these items have been products made for children. While everyone can be at risk of lead poisoning, children are especially vulnerable. As manufacturers and importers have discovered, product recalls due to these types of exposure risks not only put consumers at risk, they can also be quite costly.”
