Toronto Food Testing Lab Receives A2LA Accreditation |

Toronto, ON, March 4 th, 2021 EMSL Canada, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Toronto laboratory has received accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Program for food microbiology testing services. Toronto’s newest A2LA accreditation includes nine microbial tests on food, food products, feeds, food additives, beverages and environmental samples. Under this program, the laboratory complies with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 along with meeting the requirements of A2LA R204 – Specific Requirements – Food and Pharmaceutical Testing Laboratory Accreditation Program. EMSL Toronto can now perform the following tests:
- Aerobic Plate Count - Petrifilm
- Enterobacteriaceae - Petrifilm
- E. coli O157:H7 - VIDAS
- Listeria - VIDAS
- Listeria monocytogenes - VIDAS
- Salmonella - VIDAS
- Staphylococcus aureus - Petrifilm
- Total Coliform / E. coli - Petrifilm
- Yeast & Mold - Petrifim
Along with its new A2LA accreditation, EMSL Toronto is accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA-LAP, LLC) Environmental Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELLAP) for the analysis of lead (Pb) in paint, soil, settled dust by wipe and airborne samples. The laboratory is also accredited under AIHA’s Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP) for the analysis of bacteria and fungi and by their Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation Program (IHLAP) for asbestos analysis by phase contract microscopy (PCM).
In addition, EMSL Toronto can test for bulk and airborne asbestos analysis by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), and for bulk asbestos analysis by polarized light microscopy (PLM). The laboratory is also accredited by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ELITE for Legionella testing as well as accredited by the New York State Department of Health for the environmental analysis of solid and hazardous waste samples.
