Cinnaminson, NJ, May 6th, 2021

May is recognized as Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and May 5th is World Asthma Day. This month is dedicated to asthma control and education to increase awareness about the disease and ways to mitigate exposure risks to asthma triggers, allergens, and respiratory irritants. These are important efforts as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that asthma is one of the most common lifelong chronic diseases and 1 in 13 Americans (more than 25 million) live with the disease.

Asthma affects the lungs and causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing. For those with asthma, avoiding exposure to triggers in the environment is one of the key ways to manage the disease.

“A number of common allergens can act as asthma triggers for people with the condition,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “While they vary from person to person, some of the most common ones include tobacco smoke, dust mites, outdoor air pollution, chemical irritants, cockroaches, cats, dogs, mold, nitrogen dioxide, and smoke from burning wood or grass. Therefore, identifying the presence of these in an asthmatic’s home, school, or work environment can be a significant help in controlling and mitigating asthma attacks.”

North America’s leading environmental asthma trigger, allergen, and respiratory irritant testing provider is EMSL Analytical, Inc. With laboratories across the United States and Canada, EMSL specializes in providing comprehensive air and indoor environmental quality testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and air monitoring instruments.
