Cinnaminson, NJ, June 1
st, 2021
This June marks the 6
th National Healthy Homes Month (NHHM), an annual effort by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other partners to educate the public about housing and its impact on health. This year’s theme is “The Power of Partnerships.”
NHHM is coordinated by HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) and specifically aims to:
- Increase awareness of housing-related health hazards, lead poisoning prevention, and the overall principles of a healthy home, especially for low-income populations.
- Encourage residents to take the actions and steps for safe and healthy homes.
“With far more people spending time inside and in their homes over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders, there is now more recognition than ever that our homes need to offer a safe and healthy environment,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “This means free of lead-based paints and asbestos-containing materials, as well as elevated levels of mold, bacteria, radon, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pesticides, particulate matter (PM), and carbon monoxide. Unfortunately, too many homes still have these, and other exposure risks still present inside.”
Providing indoor environmental quality (IEQ) testing services to assist in healthy indoor environments are the scientists at EMSL Analytical, Inc. With laboratories across the United States and Canada, EMSL offers laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments, and home inspection tools.
