Title Costly Penalties for Contractors That Violate Asbestos Regulations
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers laboratory services, sampling supplies, test kits, air monitoring instruments, and personal protective equipment for construction projects to help companies comply with asbestos regulations.

Boston, MA, August 30th, 2021

Contractors involved with construction or demolition projects are required to follow regulations that mandate the safe handling and disposal of materials that contain asbestos. This is because exposure to asbestos is a well-known health hazard that can cause mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer.

Companies that fail to follow these rules are subject to costly fines and penalties. Just recently, a firm that specializes in disaster restoration was assessed over $40,000 in penalties in Massachusetts for asbestos violations for work conducted in a multi-family residence. A demolition contractor was also fined over $67,000 for asbestos violations for a project that took place in a former commercial building in the state.

“While both of these cases took place in Massachusetts, violations and penalties like these happen far too often all across the country because asbestos regulations weren’t followed,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “EMSL has been offering asbestos testing services for the past 40 years. We provide laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, and even personal protective equipment from testing facilities situated across the United States and Canada. These services are instrumental for helping contractors identify asbestos-containing materials and for assessing air and dust samples to ensure asbestos hazards are not being generated that could harm workers, neighbors, or future building occupants. Testing is also important for keeping companies in regulatory compliance to avoid costly fines and penalties.”
