Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month takes place in May and the 5^th of the month is recognized as World Asthma Day. The month is dedicated to asthma control and education to increase awareness about the disease and how those with it can prevent or mitigate exposure risks to asthma triggers, allergens, and respiratory irritants.

Asthma affects the lungs and causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), asthma is one of the most common lifelong chronic diseases with 1 in 13 Americans (more than 25 million people) living with the condition.
