Title Respiratory Protection Week and Resources to Safeguard Workers and Comply with OSHA Standards
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, filters, accessories and fit testing supplies to protect workers from airborne hazards and to help keep companies in regulatory compliance.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, September 6th, 2022

The proper use of respirators has helped to protect millions of workers from exposure to harmful substances. These workers are in a wide range of industries, including everything from healthcare and construction to farming and manufacturing.

Recognizing the vital role that respiratory protection plays in preventing illnesses and deaths, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has promoted Respiratory Protection Week each year since 2019. For 2022, the weekly observance takes place from September 6th through the 9th.

NIOSH uses this time to share their findings and educational tools to promote proper respiratory protection practices. They also encourage hosting activities within companies and organizations, whether that be training sessions with staff, educational messages pertaining to specific workplace hazards or other activities that encourage proper respiratory protection practices.

Unfortunately, respiratory protection is one of OSHA’s 10 most frequently cited safety and health violations, year after year. Last year, it was the second most frequently cited standard and in 2020, it was ranked third.

“There are a number of different types of respirators depending on the work being performed and the hazards that may be present,” said Jody Thomason, Vice President of Products/Corporate Purchasing for EMSL Analytical, Inc. “OSHA has Respiratory Protection Standards for general industry, maritime and construction. Failure to follow these could put workers at serious risk and result in costly noncompliance penalties.”

Helping companies and institutions comply with OSHA Standards to protect their workforce are the personal protective equipment specialists at EMSL Analytical. EMSL’s Products Division offers a wide range of respirators, filters and fit testing supplies. They also carry gloves, protective suits, containment equipment, air scrubbers and other tools to safeguard workers. EMSL has even sponsored an educational video about Respiratory Protection Week that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/S2bve-BXW78
