It was recently announced a deadly Listeria strain has resulted in one death and 13 hospitalized. Six states have been linked to deli meats and cheeses contaminated with Listeria. The dates of infection were from April 17, 2021, to September 29, 2022, according to the CDC. States included Maryland, where the person who died lived, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California.

There may be more cases that will crop up as it takes three to four weeks to determine if it is from the same outbreak. This outbreak may not be limited to the states listed. Eating contaminated food can cause a serious illness, listeriosis. Symptoms include fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
