Cinnaminson, New Jersey, January 5, 2023
October 2022, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of hundreds of desks and storage units and that were sold from October of 2020 through March of 2022. Paint on the tan side panels of the desks and storage units contains levels of lead that exceed the federal lead paint ban, posing a lead poisoning hazard.
The furniture was produced in the United States by a company based in Michigan that manufactures and sells office furniture and home furnishings. The products were sold online and through stores nationwide. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled desks and storage units and to contact the company for a full refund and free pickup of the furniture, or to receive a free replacement panel for the part of the furniture that has the paint that contains lead.
“It’s important that people are not exposed to elevated levels of lead as it can affect nearly every system in the human body, and this is especially true for children,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “The existing regulations to prevent needless exposure to lead in products has resulted in numerous product recalls this year, especially involving products from overseas. EMSL Analytical, with laboratories across the United States and Canada, is here to help manufacturers, importers, distributors and others with product testing services for lead and other regulated substances. These services protect consumers and help companies avoid the high costs and damaging public relations associated with product recalls.”
