Title More Than 400 Food Products Recalled Due to Possible Listeria Contamination
Introduction EMSL provides food testing services and shelf-life studies to help prevent possible food recalls.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, March 7, 2023

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in early February that dozens of brand-named products were recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. These products include ready-to-eat foods and were sold in nine states from January 24 through January 30, 2023. No illnesses have been recorded yet.

Listeria is an organism that is ubiquitous in the environment. Unlike some other food related pathogens, it is not disseminated from animals. For high-risk populations (the very old, the very young, pregnant, and immunocompromised) a very little amount of Listeria in food can be highly dangerous. Listeria monocytogenes is the most pathogenic of the species. If your company is looking to test their food before mass distribution, EMSL can help. With a state-of-the-art food pathogen testing and shelf-life studies no project is too big or too small.

“Recalls related to Listeria or other food contaminates can be costly and time consuming for companies,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL, we offer advanced testing techniques to identify Listeria and other foodborne pathogens in contaminated foods. Manufactures can use these services to help prevent contaminated foods from reaching the public or to identify the source of an outbreak if one has already occurred.”

EMSL Analytical, Inc. offers a wide range of testing services for microbial pathogens and can identify Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli O157H7, and other contaminants. These tests can be utilized to assess raw materials, finished products, and production surfaces. Testing is also instrumental for evaluating cleaning and disinfection procedures at processing, production, and manufacturing facilities. If a contaminated product has already caused an outbreak, rapid testing methods from EMSL can facilitate the process of quickly pinpointing its source to prevent further product contamination and illnesses.
