Workers’ Memorial Day is observed in the United States on the 28th of April. This annual event occurs on the same day the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established in 1971. OSHA reports that Workers’ Memorial Day is a time to honor those workers who have died on the job, to acknowledge the grievous suffering experienced by families and communities, and to recommit ourselves to the fight for safe and healthful workplaces for all workers.
Protecting workers’ health and safety is a critical function as 5,190 fatal work injuries were recorded in the United States as recently as 2021, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Millions more are injured or develop illnesses each year due to workplace accidents and conditions.
“A crucial component of protecting workers from harm involves industrial hygiene professionals who put their expertise to work every day to safeguard workers,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL Analytical, we are proud to support the industrial hygiene community and their efforts. Since 1981, EMSL has been offering laboratory testing services and a wide range of environmental and industrial hygiene resources. These include monitoring instruments, inspection tools and personal protective equipment. In addition to helping to create safer work environments, these testing services and resources are also instrumental in keeping companies and institutions in compliance with OSHA standards and other health and safety regulations.”
Several years ago, EMSL sponsored an educational video about Workers’ Memorial Day that can still be seen at: https://youtu.be/ksB6drQOY88
