Last month, Health Canada announced that its sampling and evaluation program determined that three different sets of children’s jewelry, sold under one brand, contain cadmium in excess of allowable limits. Over 4700 units of the affected product were sold in Canada between June of last year and this March.

The jewelry sets were manufactured in China and imported and distributed by Canadian companies. According to the recall notice: Under the Children's Jewelry Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell jewelry items that appeal primarily to children under 15 years of age and contain more than 130 mg/kg total cadmium if the jewelry item is small enough to be totally enclosed in the small parts cylinder when a force of not more than 4.45 N is applied.
