The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently released its preliminary list of the 10 most frequently cited safety and health violations for the 2023 fiscal year. Respiratory protection made the top 10 list, dropping to seventh place from third place last year.
Workers in many industries are at risk of being exposed to airborne hazards. Some of these substances are known to cause cancer, lung impairment, allergies, asthma or other diseases. In fact, exposure to some substances can lead to death in extreme circumstances.
“It’s unfortunate that respiratory protection has made the top 10 list of OSHA’s most frequently cited standards yet again,” said Jody Thomason, Vice President of Products/Corporate Purchasing for EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Compliance with OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard applies to all occupational airborne exposures to contaminated air where employees are exposed to a hazardous level of an airborne contaminant; required by the employer to wear respirators; or permitted to wear respirators. Complying with the Respiratory Protection Standard not only safeguards workers, it is also essential for avoiding costly noncompliance penalties. At EMSL, in addition to offering air testing services and monitoring instruments, we supply a complete range of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, filters and fit testing supplies to support compliance efforts.”
EMSL Analytical recently sponsored an educational video detailing OSHA’s top 10 list of citations for 2023 to bring attention to the importance of respiratory protection and other health and safety issues faced by workers. The video can be seen at: https://youtu.be/rVgK0tGu7V0
