Title Contractors in Las Vegas Sentenced to Prison for Asbestos Violations
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides environmental, material and industrial hygiene testing services for asbestos and other regulated substances to protect the public, workers and to help keep companies in regulatory compliance.

Las Vegas, Nevada, December 7, 2023

Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that two contractors were each sentenced to six months in prison for violating the Clean Air Act during the renovation of a Las Vegas warehouse into a marijuana growing facility. Both men had pleaded guilty earlier in the year to violating the Clean Air Act by releasing toxic asbestos fibers into the air during the project.

According to the DOJ announcement:

During the renovation, the defendants caused workers to remove drywall and ceiling texture that the defendants should have known would contain asbestos, without employing any abatement measures. This resulted in the release of asbestos fibers into the air, placing workers and the community in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury from inhalation of the toxic fibers.

“There are strict asbestos regulations because the inhalation of airborne asbestos fibers can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Anytime asbestos regulations are not followed, workers and the public can be at risk and businesses could be liable.”

For over 40 years, the asbestos testing experts of EMSL Analytical have been helping contractors, property managers, real estate developers and environmental professionals test for it and other regulated materials such as lead. Their laboratories, located across North America, also offer sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments and personal protective equipment to protect people. These same services are also instrumental for keeping companies in compliance with health and safety regulations.
