Cinnaminson, New Jersey, February 28, 2025
Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of almost 7,000 jewelry sets designed for children. The recall involved three different sets of a single brand of jewelry that were imported into the United States from China.
According to the CPSC notice:
The recalled jewelry sets contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban and levels of cadmium that are prohibited in children’s products by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. Lead and cadmium are toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled jewelry sets and to take them away from children. The sets were sold exclusively online from a major online retailer from January of 2022 through March of last year.
“This isn’t the first recall of children’s jewelry in recent times due to concerns over lead and cadmium,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “A significant amount of the products being recalled for these types of issues have been imported from countries lacking strict laws or enforcement regarding the use of these metals. This should garner the attention of all businesses that manufacture, import, distribute, and retail products made overseas.”
Dedicated to helping businesses test for regulated substances are the product testing specialists at EMSL Analytical. Their laboratories identify heavy metals and other regulated materials before products can reach consumers. These resources can be essential for preventing costly recalls and potential litigation against companies linked to recalled products.
