Last month, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced it had executed an Administrative Consent Order with a penalty of over $186,000 to a real estate firm for alleged asbestos violations. The agency reports the violations took place at a multi-family residence in a designated Environmental Justice neighborhood.
According to MassDEP, between December 2022 and May 2023, the agency identified numerous violations of asbestos regulations, including asbestos-containing pipe insulation and cement siding fragments scattered about the property near neighboring residences. MassDEP issued a Unilateral Administrative Order requiring the company to clean up the property.
