Last month, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced it had fined a contracting company over $80,000 for multiple asbestos violations. The alleged violations occurred during the renovation of a residential duplex in Middlesex County.

According to MassDEP, their personnel inspected the duplex and discovered asbestos-containing siding on the ground of the property and on the sidewalk. The company is accused of failing to conduct an asbestos survey at the duplex. The company also did not notify MassDEP before the start of the project and is purported to have not followed the required work practices for removing and handling asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).
