Cinnaminson, New Jersey, July 30, 2025 Last month, Military.com announced that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) had released a report covering indoor mold and moisture exposure concerns at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. According to the report, from at least 2011 through 2022, persistent mold problems caused health issues for cadets and employees. Exposure to elevated levels of mold in the built environment can indeed cause allergies and trigger an asthma attack in some people with the condition. Even for those who are not allergic, high levels of mold in the air can act as a respiratory irritant.
