Fort Lauderdale, Florida, September 1, 2025
The Atlantic and Caribbean hurricane season spans from June 1 to the end of November. Looking ahead to 2025, experts from Colorado State University anticipate a total of 17 named storms, with nine evolving into hurricanes, including four major hurricanes.
In 2024, the hurricane season inflicted an estimated $500 billion in combined damage and economic loss, as reported by AccuWeather. The havoc wreaked by hurricanes primarily stems from storm surge, wind destruction, and flooding. To combat such devastation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) advises individuals residing in hurricane-prone regions to stay vigilant and well-prepared.
After a hurricane strikes, Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc., cautions about potential indoor hazards. Floodwaters often carry sewage and chemicals, leading to mold growth within 48 hours of water exposure. Properties containing lead-based paints or asbestos materials pose additional risks during cleanup and reconstruction if aerosolized.
EMSL Analytical, equipped with environmental and material testing facilities across North America, stands ready to assist those impacted by hurricanes or natural disasters. Their laboratories specialize in identifying mold, bacteria, lead, asbestos, sewage, and other hazardous exposures. Additionally, EMSL offers sampling supplies, user-friendly test kits, building inspection tools, air monitoring devices, and personal protective gear.
