Lead in Consumer Products Testing

Health Canada has issued a recall of more than 17,000 units of dining furniture after detecting lead levels that exceed federal safety standards. The affected products include counter chairs, counter wood tops with metal bases, tabletop glass inserts, and counter tables.

According to Health Canada’s recall notice, testing revealed that the black coatings on the legs and metal bases of the tables and chairs contain lead above the allowable limit under the Surface Coatings Materials Regulations. Lead exposure is particularly concerning in products that may come into contact with children.

The furniture, manufactured in China, was sold to Canadian consumers between June 2023 and July 2025. Health Canada advises consumers to stop using the recalled products immediately and to contact the retailer for further instructions.
