National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) is held each year to unite communities, organizations, industries, and government agencies in raising awareness and taking action to prevent childhood lead exposure. In 2025, the event will be observed from October 19–25.
NLPPW is a nationwide initiative led by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“Lead is a toxic substance that poses significant risks, particularly to young children,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “The EPA reports that millions of U.S. households with children under six still face lead hazards. While lead-based paint remains a major source of exposure, risks can also come from contaminated water, soil, food, and other sources.”
Fortunately, lead poisoning is entirely preventable. EMSL Analytical offers comprehensive solutions to detect and mitigate exposure, including laboratory testing for lead and other heavy metals in environmental samples, consumer products, and food and beverages. With laboratories across North America, EMSL also provides sampling supplies, at-home environmental test kits, and personal protective equipment to help communities safeguard against lead exposure.
As part of its ongoing commitment, EMSL previously sponsored an educational video about National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, available here: https://youtu.be/YfaJoRrOpI4
