Dallas, Texas. December 4, 2025
A recent indoor air quality inspection has led to the temporary closure of a section of a police department in Galveston County, Texas, due to concerns about mold contamination. To be safe, employees were moved to other locations during the remediation process.
Exposure to mold may contribute to a variety of health concerns. Mold releases allergens, irritants, and, in certain instances, mycotoxins. Individuals with heightened sensitivity may experience allergic reactions even with minimal exposure. Common symptoms include sneezing, nasal congestion, ocular redness, headaches, and dermatological manifestations, which may present either immediately or after a delay. Continued exposure can lead to increased sensitivity over time, while some individuals with asthma may experience an attack. Those with weakened immune systems also face an elevated risk for potential infections.
“Mold growth often starts with something as simple as a hidden water leak,” said Jason Dobranic, Ph.D., Vice President of Microbiology and Life Sciences at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL Analytical, our nationwide network of laboratories, including multiple locations in Texas, offer comprehensive testing for mold, bacteria, asbestos, lead, radon, and other indoor environmental quality concerns to help in these types of situations.”
