Title EPA Updates National Lead Guidance to Accelerate Cleanup of Superfund, Hazardous Waste Sites
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides environmental, material, and industrial hygiene testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, and personal protective equipment to detect and mitigate exposure risks to lead and other dangerous substances.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, December 18, 2025

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced new action in October to protect Americans from lead exposure through a streamlined approach to lead investigation and cleanup at contaminated sites. The updated EPA guidance underscores the need for reliable data, precise laboratory analysis, and collaboration between federal, state, and private-sector partners to accelerate environmental restoration and safeguard public health.

As one of the nation’s leading environmental testing laboratories, EMSL Analytical provides the advanced analytical services that support these vital cleanup initiatives. From soil and dust testing to water and air analysis, EMSL helps regulators, contractors, and communities identify and quantify lead contamination with accuracy and efficiency, allowing for faster, better-informed cleanup decisions.

“There is no safe level of lead exposure for children, and people of all ages can be harmed by this toxic heavy metal,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Our laboratories are committed to delivering rapid, reliable testing results that enable agencies and remediation professionals to act quickly and confidently.”

The EPA’s updated guidance introduces:

  • A regional screening level of 200 parts per million (ppm) for lead in residential soil
  • A regional removal management level of 600 ppm for lead in residential soil
  • A target blood lead level of 5 micrograms per deciliter in children for setting preliminary remediation goals

EPA’s initiative also emphasizes early engagement with state and local partners and the establishment of a National Center of Excellence for Residential Lead Cleanups, efforts that align closely with EMSL’s mission to provide scientific support to decision-makers, builders, and public health officials nationwide.

With laboratory locations across North America, EMSL Analytical remains a trusted resource for environmental professionals seeking fast turnaround times, accuracy, and expert technical guidance in the fight against lead contamination.
