Title Phthalate Testing Services to Support Industry and Environmental Safety Amid EPA Regulatory Focus
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers environmental, consumer product, and material testing services for phthalates and other regulated substances to protect workers, the public, and prevent costly regulatory violations.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, March 10, 2026

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced its intent to regulate dozens of uses of five widely used phthalate chemicals, highlighting growing concerns over workplace exposures and environmental impacts associated with these substances. EPA risk evaluations identified unreasonable risks tied to certain industrial uses of these phthalates, prompting the agency to pursue targeted regulatory actions aimed at protecting workers and the environment.

“Phthalates are widely used as plasticizers in many products and materials,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “As EPA moves forward with regulatory actions addressing specific phthalate uses, there is increased demand for precise, reliable analytical testing to support regulatory compliance, product stewardship, health and safety programs, and environmental monitoring. EMSL’s network of accredited laboratories provides rapid turnaround times and expert technical support to help organizations stay ahead of these types of evolving regulatory requirements.”

EMSL’s phthalate testing services include:

  • Materials and Product Testing: Quantitative analysis of phthalate esters in plastics, coatings, consumer goods, and industrial products
  • Workplace Exposure Monitoring: Air and surface sampling with laboratory analysis to identify and quantify phthalates in occupational environments
  • Environmental Media Analysis: Detection of phthalates in soil, water, sediment, and waste for regulatory compliance and remediation assessment
  • Custom Method Development: Tailored analytical protocols to meet client-specific regulatory, research, or quality assurance needs
  • Advanced Instrumentation: Use of high-precision analytical techniques to ensure sensitive and accurate phthalate detection

As regulatory scrutiny continues to evolve, access to high-quality analytical data is essential. EMSL’s phthalate testing services help clients achieve compliance, evaluate product safety risks, and make informed decisions that protect employees, consumers, and the environment.
