Title Property Management Firm Fined by MassDEP for Alleged Asbestos Violations
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, air monitoring instruments, and personal protective equipment to help identify and mitigate asbestos exposure risks and support regulatory compliance.

Woburn, Massachusetts,  July 22, 2026

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) recently announced it had assessed a fine exceeding $43,000 against a property management company for violations related to asbestos abatement work at a mixed-use property in Amherst.

According to MassDEP, the company failed to implement required asbestos work practices and engineering controls during abatement activities. An inspection of the property also reportedly identified untrained and unlicensed personnel actively removing asbestos-containing materials, raising serious concerns about worker and public safety.

“Asbestos is a well-known health hazard when fibers become airborne,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Exposure through inhalation can lead to serious illnesses, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. This is why strict regulations govern the handling and removal of asbestos-containing materials. Beyond the significant health risks, noncompliance can result in substantial financial penalties, legal liabilities, and reputational damage.”

Supporting property management companies, real estate professionals, construction firms, and environmental consultants in their compliance efforts are the asbestos testing experts at EMSL Analytical, Inc. With a laboratory in Massachusetts and dozens more across North America, EMSL provides comprehensive material, environmental, and industrial hygiene testing services for asbestos and other regulated materials.

EMSL also offers a full range of resources, including sampling supplies, user-friendly test kits, air monitoring instruments, building inspection tools, and personal protective equipment. These solutions help safeguard workers and building occupants while assisting organizations in meeting federal, state, and local asbestos regulations.
