Project Experience: Allergen Study

A university researcher contacted EMSL to help with a study they wanted to conduct. The researcher was studying intervention methods for different species of cockroaches that are common in households in New Orleans. The German and American cockroach are most prevalent and have been implicated in increased asthma in children in other studies. EMSL was able to perform cockroach allergen testing for the Bla g 1 allergen, providing the researcher with a good estimate of the total antigen present in the house dust.
