An importer of milk chocolates was concerned about the inventory he had accumulated and wanted to verify that none was made with contaminated milk powder from China. Milk chocolate contains very high levels of cocoa butter, consequently, current established methods for extraction of melamine into aqueous solution were not going to be useful. EMSL developed a proprietary liquid/liquid extraction, validated the extraction and reported the client’s inventory was in fact not contaminated with melamine below the current limit of 0.25ppm.
