Test Type: Forensic and Failure Analysis
Case Study: Sunken Treasures circa 1820
A sunken ship was painstakingly brought to the surface and transported to a museum for restoration. During the restoration process some of the wood began to discolor turning black. A speedy analysis of the problem was needed in order to save the ship. Analysis of the wood by microscopy revealed the presence of fungi growing within the cellular structure of the wood itself. The findings prompted the treatment of the wood including advanced anti-microbial cleaners.
