This method enables the identification and quantification of bacteria to the genus and species level. The three Most Prominent Types of bacteria isolated are identified. Results are reported in either CFUs (colony forming units) per gram for bulk specimens, or CFUs per m3 for air samples collected on agar plates, e.g. Andersen plates. Swab samples are quantified per area swabbed if specified on the Chain-of-Custody. Suspensions and dilutions are made from bulk and swab samples and incubated on Trypticase Soy Agar (TSA) with or without 5% sheep blood at 35oC.
Various bacterial identification methods are employed in our laboratories including MIDI Fame, API, BBL Crystal, BIOLOG, PCR, and common biochemical test.
