The aim of this workshop is to provide education on permitting operations, mineral fiber sampling and analysis and mitigating exposure pathways. This workshop will focus on erionite and natural occurrences of asbestos (NOA).
The topics that will be covered include:
• General overview of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) permitting process when
naturally occurring hazardous minerals may be present.
• Sampling techniques for NOA/Erionite in soil/rock
- Incremental sampling
• Analysis techniques for NOA/ Erionite
- XRD, PLM, TEM, PCM, SEM, FBAS
• Strategy on managing occurances of NOA/Erionite
- Wet controls, limit personnel, training, etc.
• Best management practices for minimizing exposures to workers, reduce off-site tracking of materials and long-term mangement.
